channel islands competition regulatory authority

Telecoms

Under the Telecommunications (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, and Telecommunications (Jersey) Law, the authorities have the responsibility for licensing of telecommunications operators as well as managing the liberalisation of the telecommunications market. CICRA will achieve this by encouraging best practice in the telecoms sector, while giving new operators access to the existing network within realistic timescales and at realistic costs. Ultimately the main beneficiary of this process is the consumer.

In addition to a Telecommunications Licence, potential operators may also require spectrum licences, which are currently issued by Ofcom, through the authority vested in it by an Order in Council.
